We will stand tall and face it all. 2015

This painting - my personal favorite - will soon arrive to a special art collector. It warms me to know that these monks inspire and bring joy & strength.

It is not very often I make backgrounds in my paintings so dark as in this one. It´s almost black as the night itself. And I actually like it. The few paintings of mine with these very, very dark backgrounds always seem to end up as a favorite of mine.

The background was made with black and mole brown acrylic, and extra water was added onto the canvas to get the structures and textures which ended up looking like grainings. To me the wooden structure combined with the dark colors adds a strength and depth to the painting, and makes the title "We will stand tall and face it all" even stronger. The grainings may also remind you of big, old trees standing tall in the forrest with strong roots anchored to the ground. Solid. As rocks.

The painting was exhibited at the Gallery Pingvin in Oslo, on my solo exhibition and on the 30th anniversary group exhibition with Ekaterina S. Elling Reitan and Silvia Papas & more.

These monks, painted in white and ivory, stand tall and have their faces raised high, to show that nothing can break them down. They don´t even mind the darkness that surrounds them. Even the thin lines of black color around their bodies flows of and don´t effect them. Together, but also as individuals, they are strong, and they will concur everything in their way. Nothing will overturn them.

It was not only your painting that got to me. It was something about the title as well. You know, it´s like the monks and the title all together inspire me to move on and reach my goals. I know I´ll have to stand tall, face it all, and I´ll get through it.
